During the Texas freeze February 2021, a School District in Texas experienced frozen evaporator barrels on four of their chillers at two different sites – resulting in no cooling at either. One site had two 350 ton air-cooled chillers and the other housed two 270 ton units.
Shortly after the deep freeze, Texas experienced temperatures up to 80°F and the district was left scrambling to maintain their mission of providing a comfortable learning experience for their students and staff. With the unique nature of the Quantech stock chiller program, our Quantech sales rep team was able to provide two 270 tons Quantech stock chillers and two made-to-order 350 ton chillers to be delivered later.
One 270 ton stock unit went to each campus to allow for partial cooling. Due to the location of the school district and its proximity to the Quantech stock storage facility, the day after the project was awarded, the customer picked up the chillers themselves.
Once the two 350 ton made-to-order chillers arrive, the two 270 ton stock units will be put together and a complete cooling replacement will be fulfilled. This strategy, saved the district thousands in rental costs and provided a unique solution- instead of the hassle of renting and waiting.
